His parents were Bhai Sughaji and Bibi Gauraji who belonged to the Jatt Caste. Babaji's early name was Boorhra. At the age of 11 years 11 months and 24 days, Babaji was Granted the Audience of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. At the time, Babaji was herding cattles when Satguruji, seeing the young Boorhra, Ordered His Sevak(Bhai Balaji) to call him. After a brief conversation with Satguruji, Boorhra was Allowed to return home. However, the next day he became very desperate for The Sight he received the previous day and even stole butter from his own house in order to present it as an Offering to Guruji. When Guruji told him to take the stolen butter back home before his parents find out, Boorhra began crying for he did not want to be sent back home and be separated from Satguruji. After a brief conversation, Satguruji Declared that Boorhra, though physically a child, was mentally Budda(Old). From that day on, Babaji(Whose name has been changed to Budda) left his house and traveled along with Satguruji to Kartarpur despite his parents' effort of finding him a bride and keeping him with them. Though Babaji wanted to spend his entire life by serving The Guru and not to get married, he obeyed Guruji's Hukam to live a normal life and on Sunday 15th Phagan 1580 Bikarmi, Buddaji's marriage ceremony was arranged. Buddaji was later Blessed with 4 sons whose Names were Given by Satguru Nanak Dev Ji as follow:
1) Bhai Sudhariji born in 1585 Bikarmi. Babaji remained a Faithful Sikh and was very much Devouted to Serving Satguruji and The Sangat. Babaji was also Given The Honor of putting Tilak on Guru Angad Devji's Forehead when He Ascended The Gurgaddi. When Guru Angad Dev Ji, Who after traveling to Khadoor as Ordered by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Decided to Meditate and not to Give Darshan to the Sikhs in a house that was sealed from the outside world, it was Babaji who said his Prayers infront of the house and removed the bricks used to seal the door. Only then did Guruji Agree to Bless The Sangat with His Darshan. Babaji lived with Guruji at Khadoor and would also returned home to his village in order to Serve The Sangat and spread the Knowledge of Gurmukhi in both places. When Guru Angad Dev Ji Decided to Transfer Gurgaddi to Sri Guru Amardas Ji, Babaji was again Given The Honor of putting Tilak on Guru Sahib's Forehead. Guru Amardas Ji, as Ordered by Guru Angad Dev Ji, Traveled to Goindwal where He Blessed the people with Sikhi. However, back in Khadoor, Guru Angad Dev Ji's son, Dasu, proclaimed himself a guru and fooled many into actually believing so. But, after a while, things got worse and Dasuji came down with some kind of illness and went berserk. Dasuji was taken to Guruji's Holy Feet by Mata Khiviji(Mahal of Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji) and Blessed by The True Guru, Dasuji was cured. But there was another son of Guru Angad Dev Ji, Datuji, who was jealous of Guru Amardas Ji and even went to Goindwal to literally kick The Guru out of The Throne. The Benevolent Akal Purakh Satguru, however, did not express any anger towards the foolish Datu. After apologizing to Datu for hurting his feet which came into contact with His old Body, His Holiness did just what Datu wanted and at about midnight, Left Goindwal and Traveled to Baserkay where He Decided to Stay in a small house and Meditate. Outside The House, He Posted a Sign that prohibited any Sikh of His from entering the house through the door. The next morning, The Sikhs did not know what to do as they could not find Satguruji so they approached Baba Buddaji who, at the time the incident took place, was back at his village. Babaji closed his eyes in Meditation after saying his Prayers and The Guru was Seen Meditating in a house at Baserkay. However, Babaji, being a humble Sikh that he was, decided not show off his powers and instead of taking the Sikhs straight to Baserkay, directed them to follow him to Goindwal. When The Sikhs reached Guru Sahib's former Dera(Residence) at Goindwal, Babaji asked the local Sikhs for more information about what happened. The Sikhs replied that Guru Sahib must have Left at around midnight and the only Thing Belonging to Guru Sahib that has not been taken away by Datu was His Horse which did not allow Datu to ride itself. Babaji, upon hearing this, ordered The Sikhs to give The Horse a bath, nicely decorate it and let it roam free. He said that where ever Guru Sahib were, His Horse would be able find Him. With the Blessing of Babaji, The Horse indeed Found its Master. But the sign Guru Sahib posted infront of the house posed a bigger challenge for The Sikhs who did not want to disobey Guru's Hukam but were also unable to live without The Guru's Darshan. The Sikhs, not knowing what to do, turned to Babaji who hatched a plan that Guru Sahib's Hukam was that no Sikh of His shall pass through the door but not any other opening into the house so Babaji decided to dismantel the brick wall on the opposite(east) side of the door and finally got through to Gain Darshan of Guruji who was Deep in Meditation. When Guru Sahib Opened His Eyes, Babaji was questioned why he had disobeyed the Guru's Hukam and came inside. To this, Babaji quickly explained exactly how he, without opening the door, got into the house. He then requested Guru Sahib to once again start Granting Audience to The Sikhs for which Babaji's Prayer was Answered and Guruji Gave Order for the remaining Sikhs outside of the house to come in. At the time when Guru Amardas Ji Decided to Transfer Gurgaddi to Guru Ramdas Ji in 1631 Bikarmi, Babaji was again the very person who put The Tilak on Guru Ramdas Ji's Forehead. Babaji served The Guru until His Holiness decided to Transfer The Holy Gurgaddi to Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in 1638 Bikarmi. Babaji was present to put The Tilak on Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Forehead. In 1643 Bikarmi, Babaji was Given The Honor of laying the first brick in the construction of Santokhsar's Sacred Pool by Satguruji. In 1647 Bikarmi, when the city of Taran Taaran was Founded by The Guru, Baba Buddaji was also present and diligently contributed to the city's construction. In 1650 Bikarmi, Babaji was Given The Honor of inaugrating the construction of the city of Kartarpur. On the day of 21st Assu 1651 Bikarmi, Babaji Blessed Mata Ganga Ji(Mahal of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji) that an Avatar(Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji) would Take Avatar in her House. Babaji's Blessings became True in 1652 Bikarmi on the day of 21st Harhr at midnight in the village called Wadali when The Akal Purakh Satguru, Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib Maharaj, The Satgur-Rai whose physical appearance symbolized nothing else but The Avatar of Akal, Took Avatar. Baba Buddaji went for The Darshan of Guru Sahib's Sahibzada at Guru Ki Wadali and Named Him 'HarGobind'. When Sahibzada HarGobind Sahib was of the age for education, Satguruji called upon Babaji to Teach The Sahibzada Gurmukhi. It is said that once Vajeer Khan, an officer in the court of Jahangeer came down with an illness and, despite all the hospitality, remained sick. Vajeer Khan who had heard of The Guru's Grace, went to Amritsar in the hope that Guruji would help him get rid of the disease that was plaguing him. At that time, Baba Buddaji, who was then 94 years old, was serving The Sangat and carrying a basket on his head. Satguruji called Babaji and Instructed him to cure Vajeer Khan. Babaji at once complied with The Guru's Order and put the basket on the official's diseased stomach. Vajeer Khan began to vomit uncontrollably for a while after which he found himself completely restored to health. Vajeer Khan, impressed by The Guru's Grace, remained at The Gurdwara for a long while and then in 1657 Bikarmi, left the Guru's Holy Feet. However, before leaving, he requested Guruji for a Sikh who would read him Gurbani and always remind him of God. Guruji therefore sent a Sikh called Bhai Bhagi of Wadali with him. When Satguruji Decided to compile all of The Aad Guru's Banis into An Aad Granth, He sent His Sikhs to different parts of India to collect The Original Manuscripts of those Banis from The Sikhs who had Them in Their possessions. Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Many Banis were recorded by Sikhs such as Bhai ManSukhji. Many of Guru Angad Dev Ji's Banis were recorded by Bhai Pairhra Mokha. Similarly, much of Guru Amardas Ji's Banis were recorded by Baba Mohanji's son, SahansRaamji, and these were kept by Baba Mohanji himself. Satguruji first sent Bhai Gurdasji to get The Banis from Baba Mohanji but he returned empty handed. Satguruji then Ordered Baba Buddaji who at once traveled to Goindwal. When he finally met Baba Mohanji(Baba Buddaji had to break a window to get into his room), he was unable to get his(Baba Mohanji's) attention as he was deep in meditation and would not open his eyes even when his body was shook by Baba Buddaji. Baba Buddaji realized that The Guru's Bani could only be Retrieved by The Guru, so he hurried back to Amritsar and told Satguruji about the incident. Satguruji Himself then traveled to Goindwal and only then, with The Sound of Guru's Holy Speech, did Baba Mohanji wake up from deep meditation and respectfully handed over the Guru's recorded Banis. Upon the completion of the Aad Granth's compilation, Babaji was given the Honor of Reading It at Harmandir Sahib. After The Martyrdom of The 5th Master, Baba Buddaji put The Tilak on Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji's Forehead and remained His Loyal Sikh until it was his time to leave for the heavenly aboard. Seeing his end nearing, Babaji sent a few Sikhs to request Satguruji to come over and Give him one final Darshan before he leaves his earthly body. Satguruji Answered Babaji's Prayers and Traveled to meet Babaji at Ramdas where after Langar, Satguruji along with Bhai Gurdas and a few other Sikhs stayed with Babaji Singing Hymns and listening to Guru's Sakhis until it was AmritVela of the next day. Babaji, seeing it was the right time, requested Satguruji to take care of his son, Bhanaji and then, after Ishnan(Taking a bath), Babaji asked for Guru Sahib's permission to leave his body. When the Permission was Granted, Babaji, wearing a white dress, lied down and while looking at The Very Face of God, at the age of 125 years 1 month and 7 days, left his body. |
