Though Guru Gobind Singh Ji succeeded in destroying islam government, He intentionally left out Malerkotla and allowed the city to be occupied by the majority of muslims.

The reason being that when The 2 Sahibzadas(sons), Jorawar Singh Ji and Fateh Singh Ji, of Satguruji were martyred, Nahar Khan, a pathan of Malerkotla pleaded for Them to be released.
