Diwan Nand Lal

(Diwan Nand Lal)
-*Translation: After one's heart(Mind) is cleansed by Khuda(Almighty God), The Murshad(PurakhGuru/DehDhariGuru) Provides it with Conscience.
Otherwise how would The Path to The Almighty be found? And what lessons would one be able to learn from the granths? Everything that has happened is The Kirpa of The Murshad. Those who do not have Faith in or do not have a Murshad are even more foolish than a donkey.*-

Diwan Nand Lal, one of the most devouted Sikhs during The Time of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, was borned in 1633 at Ghazni.

His father was Munshi Chaju Ram, an expert in Farsi language who moved to Ghazni (Afghanistan) in 1630.

When Bhai Nand Lal turned twelve, his father decided to put him through the process of baptism(performed by the guru of their caste).

But the young Bhai Nand Lal requested that he would rather not be baptised into any religion at that time.

In the year 1652, after the death of his father, Bhai Nand Lal traveled to Multan (Punjab) and built a house there. His residence as well as areas surrounding it became known as 'Agapur' because his desciples called him 'Aga' which means 'Swami' or 'Guru'.

Bhai Nand Lal possessed Great Knowledge in many languages such as Farsi, Arabic and Riazi and was simply a man of amazing inginuity in the field of poetry.

From 1683-1697, Bhai Sahib lived with Aurangzeb's son(Bahadur Shah) as his teacher. It was during this period that he once impressed Aurangzeb by translating a verse from the quran that no one else could. Aurangzeb, seeing Bhai Sahibji's vast intellectual wealth, wanted to convert him into islam.

Bhai Nandlal, who has always been reluctant to convert into any religion, therefore shifted to Anandpur Sahib in 1697 where He lived under The Protection of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.

Like a child that is happiest when living with its parents or a fish that cannot live without water, Bhai Nandlal became a Devouted Diwan of Satguruji who would simply not settle for anything else but The Sight of Guruji.

It is said that after The Diwan in the evening is over, and the entire village, including Sri Satguru Gobind Singh Ji rests, Diwan Nand Lal would stand outside Guru Sahib's Dera(Residence) and bang his head in agony on the door the entire night crying that 'The Sun' has set, until Guruji once again Gives Him Darshan in the morning with which Diwan Nand Lal's sarrow was washed away.

(Ghazzal - Diwan Nand Lal)

-*Translation: I do not buy a Thousand Heavens for half its price where there is no Darshan(Audience) of Yours, Guru Gobind Singh.*-

With the vast Knowledge and Devouted Mind of Bhai Sahib, Sikhs today are fortunate enough to acquire Great knowledge form his priceless manuscripts.

-*It is a regret indeed that the singh sabha has fabricated many banis such as 'Tankha Nama' and 'Rahitnama' and used the signature of Diwan Nand Lal in order to satisfy their own baseless causes.*-

After Aurangzeb's death in 1707 A.D., Diwan Nand Lal was an intermediary between Guru Sahib and emperor Bahadur Shah.

After Guru Sahib Left Nander, Bhai Nand Lal worked for Bahadur Shah as well as Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Mahals(Wives), until Bahadur Shah died in 1712 A.D.

After Bahadur Shah's son's death in 1713, Diwan Nand Lal traveled back to Multan and opened a school. There he lived until he left his body in 1715 leaving behind 2 sons; Lakhpat Rai and Lila Ram as well as the Greatest Pieces of Literature in both Farsi as well as Punjabi.
