(Aad Granth Sahib - Page 474)
Sardar Hira Singh Ji was borned in Sakraudi and spent his early life serving Maharaja Mahinder Singh of Patiala.
His mother, upon receiving Gurmantar became a Sikh, but he was an ordinary sardar consuming meat and liquor. His mother would sometimes Pray before Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji to Bless Hira Singh with Sikhi.
It was not much longer until his mother's Prayers were answered. When Baba Kahn Singh Ji Nihang, Suba of Sri Satguruji went to Patiala to spread Sikhism, the Maharaja of Patiala sent Sardar Hira Singh to receive The Gurmantar in order to come back and tell him what The Gurmantar was.
However, after receiving Gurmantar, when the maharaja asked Hira Singh for the Gurmantar, he replied that if the maharaja needed The Guru's Mantra, he should go get it himself!
Hearing this, the maharaja was enraged and ordered Hira Singh to be removed from his position. However, a Guru's Sikh is never alone, and so was the case with Hira Singh, whose 100 friends that served the maharaja followed him leaving their jobs and all received Gurmantar to become Sikhs.
When Hira Singh's mother heard about this, she was very happy and arranged an Akhand Path as well as a Mela to celibrate the occasion. When the Mela was over, Hira Singh Ji decided it was his turn to serve The Sangat and started another Mela which he called 'Meli'.
He became a Truly Devouted Sikh(Mastana) of Satguruji who spoke nothing but The Truth. To him, all kinds of earthly possessions were of no value, as he arranged a Mela and served The Sadh Sangat(Congregation) with everything he could offer.
Until the end of his life, he remained a Sikh of Satguruji and was the leader of The Sikhs who fought against muslims at Malerkotla, killing their leader Samund Khan and finally becoming a Shaheed facing execution by being shot at with a cannon on 17th January 1872. Executed alongside him was his cousin, Sardar Lehna Singh Ji.
-*Sardar Hira Singhji possessed such great knowledge of Shaster Vidya(The Art of Using Weapons) that when he beheaded Samund Khan, he was able to leave the pathan's hair intact while separating the head from the body.*-
