(Aad Granth Sahib - Page 185)
The battle between Truth and Falsehood has been around for as long as anyone could remember, and sometimes looks like a never-ending battle of Good versus Evil.
Most of the fabrications and distortions of Sikh History in existence today, during this age of 'information', are due to 2 major reasons:
1. Sincere unknowingsness of the truth.
2. An effort by a group of people to hold their social positions and to control people.
The first reason, many times, is infact the result of the second, and together they form a chain that cannot be easily broken unless the truth is told. The most practical example is perhaps how the Singh Sabha Movement, with support of british-controlled government, fabricated Banis as well as Sakhis(history of Sikh Gurus) in order to control the people of Punjab.
The Following are a few of the major fabrications/misunderstandings that are found today in various medias:
Guru TeghBahader Sahib Blessing Sikhs with 'hat-wearing-sikhs'
Mata Sahib Deva Ji putting Patasas in Amrit
Guru Gobind Singh Ji receiving Amrit from Panj Pyare
Sahib Kaur/Banda Singh/Nand Lal Singh
Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji denied Guruship
'Aagya Bhei Akal Ki...' & 'Granth Guru'/'Panth Guru'
Invention of Anand Maryada & Amrit to women
